INFO

Established in 2016, ABungalow Artists’ Foundation is an artist residency project located in Talisay City, Negros Occidental. It provides support and ample space for artists to create works that relate to the residency’s surroundings and their actual impression of the vista and culture of Negros Island. The residency project hopes for the artists to share involvement with the community through co-creation, education, and interaction.

ABungalow’s house-studio architecture uses reclaimed furnishings and salvaged fixtures for windows, grills, flooring, etc. Some of the furniture are custom made from existing raw materials in the premises.

The compound is surrounded by a lush garden setting, with a separate studio  accessible for artists who wish to do sculpture or woodworks.

The duration of each residency is put at 1-2 months to accomplish either a proposed project, exhibition, or additional work that would be added to ABungalow’s permanent collection.

Series of works produced during the artist’s stay are commonly exhibited at Kapitana Gallery —a contemporary art space situated in Balay ni Tana Dicang.

Balay ni Tana Dicang is a beautifully preserved heritage house built in 1872. It opened to the public in 2008, and was recently declared by the National Museum of the Philippines as an Important Cultural Property. Part of the proceeds from the gallery’s exhibition sales are donated to the balay’s maintenance.
